What is Clinical Kinesiology?

Updated: 2 days ago

Clinical kinesiology, exercise therapy, personal training - they all share traits, but what sets clinical kin apart? Read on to find out!

Clinical Kinesiology Defined

Clinical kinesiology is the applied practice of using movement as medicine. Kinesiologists, or kins, are professionals trained in the physical, anatomical, psychological and social aspects of movement, and they are specifically trained to improve their clients' health through movement and exercise.

What conditions can clinical kinesiology treat?

Clinical kin is effective for treating any hypokinetic diseases. A hypokinetic disease is any diseases that is caused by or made worse by a lack of movement. These include:

  • Type 2 diabetes

  • Cardiovascular disease (CVD)

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)

  • Osteoporosis

  • Chronic back pain, in some cases

  • Metabolic syndrome

  • Obesity

  • Arthritis

  • And so, so many more.

Does Saskatchewan have clinical kinesiology services?

Saskatchewan does have several clinics where kinesiologists work, but clinical kin services are lacking here. Access to kins is often limited to to physiotherapy clinics and commercial gyms. Zen Kin is different - we don't need a clinic. Zen Kin's university-trained kinesiologists can meet you in your home to provide the same level of care and knowledge as a clinical kin, without having to suffer the awful playlist and sterile environment of a clinic. We're here to bring you the benefits of movement without clinical environment.
